Iainism: Little Iain

It's a Sunday afternoon, Simon is napping, and Russ, Iain and I are eating contraband grilled cheese sandwiches and veggies with hummus.

Iain: Guess what little Iain told me.
Mama: Umm...who is little Iain?
Iain: He is napping.
Mama: Do you mean Simon?
Iain: No, little Iain.
Daddy: So what did little Iain tell you?
Iain: Octopus.

He then proceeded to tell us everything he learned about octopi from his sea creatures book while I tried really, really hard not to laugh.

Iainism: The Yellow button

While shopping for groceries in the new, very echo-y grocery store in the area:

Iain (pushing daddy's chest): What's this?
Daddy: I think it's the blue button.
Iain: No, it's the red button.
Daddy: It can't be. I threw all the red buttons away. I only have blue buttons today.
After a few moments of consideration
Iain (again pushing a spot on daddy's chest): Now what's this?
Daddy (looking down and noticing Iain is pushing on some lettering on his shirt): I don't know, what is it?
Iain: This is the yellow button. It says I don't love you really loud. (shouting) I DON'T LOVE YOU.

Needless to say, the cashier was very amused.

Iainism: The Red Button

So, before getting to the Iainism here, a little back story. A while ago, probably close to a year, Iain decided one day that he didn't love me. He just told me one day that he didn't. So, what else was a dad to do? I tickled him until he said he did. Since then, he comes up to me probably at least twice a day to say he doesn't love me just so I will tickle him.

Well, apparently this was no longer working for him. He recently decided that he needed to be able to push a button to express his love or dislike of his father. So, one day, he touched a spot on my desk and asked me "What's that, Daddy?" Turns out it was the dreaded "red button," or the button that said he didn't love me. He then moved his finger a few inches to the right and again asked the question. The answer this time was the "blue button," or the I love you button. He then spent the next few days pushing the red button whenever he could. Keep in mind that these buttons had no physical presence whatsoever.

So, now we get to the Iainism. We were driving to the store to return a dvd we had rented.

Iain (from the back seat of the car): Uh-oh.
Daddy: What's wrong buddy?
Iain: I forgot the red button.
Daddy: What do you mean.
Iain: Well, I put the blue button in my pocket before we left but I forgot to get the red button. I guess that means I love you.
